Elections
I'm disgusted by politics. I even more disgusted when politicians run for election. Every ad tells you nothing. It's all slander and negative bash ads. No one ever accomplishes anything because the system is too broken. A good guy can't get through the process and get elected. If he does, he is 1 of 100. I'm currently teaching the unit on American Independence, when politicians (although crooked at their time also) declared a pretty bold statement and did what was best for the people. Granted, they were corrupt also, but at least they had the balls to do something. Today we are stuck with men and women that fight eachother in circles, solving nothing. It's a slap in the face of those men that signed the declaration.

Seems to me that the problem you are whining about is less a matter of good people gone bad and more about what it takes to create the sound bites that will convince people to vote for you. The reason we see so little substance in campaigns is because the public doesn't want substance. They want entertainment, and they want it in little bites they can consume between episodes of Law and Order and American Idol. Ironically, there are substantive issues out there right now and most candidates actually do feel one way or another about how to approach our problems. Unfortunately, it takes a bit of work to ferret that information out so that we can vote responsibly. How can we become better informed voters in the age of 30 second sound bites? We may be in bigger trouble than we can imagine if we don't figure that out.
